This is a fairly rare postcard taken from a painting by Kobayakawa Shusei (1889-1974). It was commissioned by the Greater East Asian War Operation Records Dept.
It shows the moment British soldiers surrendered to the Japanese, and each face is different enough to assume they are good likenesses of the actual soldiers. The line at the bottom of the card translates as ” The enemy 6th Brigade Commander surrendered to us in the Battle of Indein (Burma).”
